Oilseed Rape Breeder (m/f/d)

For our breeding station in Peine/Rosenthal we are looking for a

OILSEED RAPE BREEDER (M/F/D)

 

Your main activities:

  • Develop new parental lines and the respective hybrids for the European market with a focus on the Central European area (Germany/Poland/Czech Republic)
  • Define the short- and long-term objectives of the breeding program and the target variety portfolio in close relationship with development and marketing teams
  • Evolve and implement the breeding strategy for this market together with the program head and in close cooperation with the European breeding teams, to sustain the leadership of the Oilseed Rape hybrid portfolio
  • Develop a good understanding of business challenges through interactions with all relevant stakeholders
  • Lead local collaborations and contribute to scientific projects with public and private partners in compliance with company standards and protocols
  • Implement the breeding strategy and manage the breeding program with full integration of novel breeding technologies available (genomics, software, digital tools, fast cycle schemes, phenotyping platforms, etc.)
  • Manage and conduct assessment of breeding material, monitor best practice execution of nurseries and trials (in Germany and abroad)
  • Analyze data with appropriate biostatistical methods and tools and take breeding decisions
  • Manage a highly motivated and experienced breeding team in Germany dedicated to the breeding program
  • Participate in the management of the station: facilitate team meetings and resources organization
  • Ensure that all team members follow the company standards (health, safety, environment and others)
  • Promote innovation and maintain high technical and scientific level of his / her team
  • Develop close relationship with Oilseed Rape breeders and breeding technology functions across the Limagrain organization

Your profile:

  • PhD or equivalent in Plant Breeding and Genetics or a closely related field
  • Strong demonstrated knowledge in breeding, quantitative genetics, agronomy and application of modern tools and technologies for crop improvement
  • Experience as a plant breeder in a private breeding program is advantageous
  • Knowledge of target production region, associated biotic and abiotic stresses, and relevant germplasm
  • General competence in statistics, data management, presentation and reporting
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills as well as Leadership skills
  • Fluent German and English
